Choosing the right mounting style for Vicor DC-DC converters or any converter can increase reliability by minimising stress on the pins and solder joints. With six different pin styles and a range of in-board and on-board socket options, Vicor Maxi, Mini and Micro DC-DC converters enable designers to select the best mounting style for each application.

With eight new wide-input 28V Micro DC-DC converter modules, Vicor is adding more output voltage, environmental grade and packaging options for power designs in commercial, industrial, transportation or defence applications. The new quarter-brick Micro converters feature efficiencies up to 82%, with 9 to 36V input range and output voltage trim from 10% to 110%.
The first free PowerTechtorials interactive CD from Vicor features expert video tutorials on techniques for improving output filtering and input overvoltage protection as well as an overview of DC-DC converter theory. With valuable insights for even experienced power designers, the PowerTechtorials CD is free and available now from Vicor.
The modular design and the flexibility to change output power, were key reasons why Vicor VE-200 series DC-DC converters were chosen to power an on-board CCTV system for Portugal Rail. The converters’ ability to operate over a wide temperature range and to withstand vibration and shock were also critical for this EN50155-certified system.
